The truth about cholesterol: is it really bad?

The truth about cholesterol: is it really bad?

At Evolutive Clinic we always keep up with the latest scientific findings so we can offer you the best advice in Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI). Today we'd like to share a finding that could change how you see LDL cholesterol, commonly known as “bad cholesterol”.

A revealing study

A cohort study of more than 6,000 participants over the age of 65, followed for 9 years, produced surprising results: high levels of LDL cholesterol were associated with a lower all-cause mortality. This finding, published in the British Medical Journal and freely available on PubMed, challenges the widely accepted belief about the risks of LDL cholesterol.

What does this mean for you?

For many years, LDL cholesterol has been cast as the villain of our cardiovascular health. However, this study suggests that higher levels of this type of cholesterol may not be as harmful as once thought. In fact, it may even be linked to greater longevity in older people.

Why does it matter?

We believe in questioning and updating our practice in line with the latest scientific evidence. This study is a crucial reminder that, when it comes to health, things aren't black and white. Data needs to be interpreted with nuance and in context.

Coming soon: the impact of statins

In future posts we'll look at the possible side effects of cholesterol-lowering drugs such as statins. We'll examine how these medicines can affect your overall health and discuss natural alternatives and prevention strategies based on PNI.
